Nike U-turns, will sell goalkeeper jerseys after Earps outcry

Nike will make its girls’s groups goalkeeper kits out there for followers to purchase, the sportswear big stated on Thursday following a petition supported by England’s Mary Earps.

While followers had been in a position to purchase their nationwide groups’ duplicate kits, the goalkeeper’s jersey was not on sale through the Women’s World Cup, which led to criticism from Earps and a petition shared by her which had over 150,000 signatures.

The England males’s goalkeeper jersey is in the stores.

Nike issued a press release after the World Cup ultimate to say it understood the need for a retail model of the ladies’s jersey and was working in direction of options for future tournaments.

“Nike has secured limited quantities of goalkeeper jerseys for England, U.S., France and the Netherlands to be sold through the Federation websites over the coming days,” Nike instructed Reuters.

“We recognise that during the tournament we didn’t serve those fans who wished to show their passion and support to the squad’s goalkeepers. We are committed to retailing women’s goalkeeping jerseys for major tournaments in the future.”

Nike misplaced earnings potential after the United States girls’s staff suffered their earliest ever World Cup exit, however England’s run to the ultimate offered an additional supply of revenue. Spain beat England 1-0 within the ultimate final Sunday, throughout which Earps saved a penalty and was later awarded the event’s Golden Glove award.
